John started dj’ing in 1991 gaining his first residency straight out of High School.  A dj renowned for creating an awesome party mix that saw him gain the dj residency for Degree Bar in January of 2000 through till 2008. 

Throughout his residency John focused on both Degree & Corporate dj’ing which has taken him to many great locations over the years.  Such as the Rock the Tropics party in Beachcomber Island Fiji, the Beach Rave Party for Coke on South Seas Island Fiji, Retro Partys at Sheratons on Denarau Fiji & Gold Coast, the Shack Party on Mclarens Landing in the Gold Coast, Fashion Parades & Pool Parties at Pallazo Versace Gold Coast, Winter Raves on Cardrona Ski Field Queenstown as well as regularly touring NZ with various companies as they take their shows on the road.

Through the growth of Degree Bar, whose owners acquired more venues & developed what has become the Barworks Group, John saw the opportunity to start his own agency & Dj Grooves Ltd was born.  Dj Grooves is Auckland’s first real dj booking agency & looks after the interests of Barworks venues throughout Auckland & Christchurch, consulting with the various operators to ensure the ideal mix of New Zealands premiere dj talent along with a core of solid residents are matched to venues we look after. 

Although busy with many venues Degree will always be the bar that John calls home & works hard with the management team to ensure that it remains renowned for being one of Aucklands finest party venues!


 

 

David James

David James has been driving dancefloors wild for over a decade.  Since his first gig at the age of 17 spinning vinyl at Auckland’s Ministry club for which he was recognized by being voted best “up’n coming dj” in his first year on the scene.  David’s dj’ing skills & knowledge of music have seen him develop into one of Auckland’s most entertaining DJ’s, he visibly loves the music he plays, as well as the interaction he offers with the crowd.  David is an extremely versatile DJ having played every genre in clubs around New Zealand, from the hard edged Dance music he started with, through to Funk, Hip Hop, Rock & onto the high energy club house sound he play’s at Degree today. 

David has been resident dj at Degree Bar since 2007, his sublime skills on the decks, energy in the booth & ability to gauge the pulse of the crowd combine to create an atmosphere that clubbers return to week after week.  David has held residencies at Celsius Bar, Kiss, Reservoir Bar, Ginger Minx, Garrison, The Hangar, R’totos, Goode Brothers & Luminaire as well as having played at countless other clubs and events around New Zealand.

David James can be found playing at Degree on Friday & Saturday nights, prepare to be entertained!

 

  

C-Ram

Marc Joe aka dj C-Ram is one of Aucklands emerging dj talents, his preferred medium is turntables on which he is a skilled practitioner although he is equally comfortable rockin a pair of CDJ’s. 

A versatile dj that can play across a range of genres C-Rams main influences have been hip hop & rn’b which is evident in the sound he brings to his dance sets which always have a underlying funky groove that keeps dancefloors captivated. 

A part of the Illegal Music team that see’s him regularly feature as the dj for popular NZ artists Jay Williams & Vince Harder, with whom C-Ram recently got to play in front of a crowd of near 100,000 for the Band Together Earthquake Relief Concert in Christchurch.

Karn Hall

Dj Karn Hall is one of Aucklands most exciting dj talents with over 15 years experience Karn stamps his own definitive style on the gigs & dancefloors he has heaving every weekend. 

Karn keeps himself busy as an established & successful male model as well as presenter of The Becks List  on Juice TV where he interviews visiting international & local electronica artists & dj’s, but perhaps most notable is his regular slot on popular dance station George FM where Karn hosts The Shuffle (Monday-Thursday 2pm-4pm) one of the stations most popular shows & a great vehicle through which Karn can express his love of electronic music.

Karn holds a monthly residency at Degree Bar & can be found playing the Smash Disco club nights which take place on the last Saturday of any given month. 

With the energy Karn brings to the decks the Smash Disco brand has grown to become one of the must go to nights on many clubbers calenders.  As Karn said in a recent interview “If you’re passionate about something and enjoy it, follow it, live it and love it” & this passion is clearly on show every time Karn hits the decks.

Sample Gee is New Zealand's most commercially successful DJ of all time, with over a quarter of a million mix CD sales in Australasia.  Hit the Top 20 singles chart in New Zealand with Chain Gang - "Jump" in 1991, the first ever locally produced dance track to make the Top 20 & released the first ever mix CD in New Zealand "Lagered" in 1996.

Hosted NZ's first dance music video show "The Pulse" on Max TV from 1994-1998. Mixed NZ's first ever nationwide syndicated mix show on radio, "The ZM Clubmix" until 2003.

First DJ to have a mix CD certified GOLD sales in New Zealand (2Lagered in 1997) as well as the first DJ to have a mix CD certified PLATINUM in New Zealand (Lagered 3 in 1998)

Chet O’Connell And Malcolm McCallumevent

Chet and Mal have been performing the ‘Acoustic Sunday sessions’ at Degree since 2001, playing a selection of easy listening covers and originals. The laid back vibe of the Sunday sessions makes Degree the perfect place to relax and unwind at the end of the weekend.

Chet and Mal are both seasoned performers and their vast musical abilities have enabled them to move around the music scene with ease.

Chet works with a number of high profile artists including Midge Marsden, Jackie Clarke and Shane Cortese, and is often called upon for various tours and large scale outdoor events.

Mal is also well respected within the entertainment industry as a Jingle writer and arranger. He regularly works alongside Suzanne Lynch and Shane Hales, and is also a member of the ‘Conrays ‘.
